Background of the Study
Gender disparity in managerial positions remains a significant issue across various industries globally, including in Nigeria (Ijeoma & Amos, 2023). Women are often underrepresented in leadership roles, despite growing awareness and initiatives aimed at achieving gender equality in the workplace (Chimamanda & Eniola, 2024). Dangote Sugar Refinery, one of Nigeria's leading sugar producers, has made strides in promoting gender diversity. However, like many organizations, the company faces challenges in achieving gender parity in managerial positions.
In Yobe State, Dangote Sugar Refinery operates multiple production plants, where male employees significantly outnumber female employees in managerial roles. This disparity can be attributed to several factors, including cultural biases, gender stereotypes, and limited access to opportunities for women (Bamidele & Olufemi, 2023). This study aims to investigate the gender disparity in managerial positions at Dangote Sugar Refinery in Yobe State, identifying the barriers women face in attaining leadership positions and recommending strategies for improving gender equality within the organization.
Statement of the Problem
Although Dangote Sugar Refinery has made efforts to increase gender diversity, gender disparity in managerial positions persists. This inequality not only hinders the full potential of the workforce but also limits organizational diversity, which can affect decision-making and innovation (Akintoye & Olanrewaju, 2023). Understanding the factors contributing to this gender gap and identifying ways to address them is crucial for improving gender parity in the company’s leadership structure in Yobe State.
